When using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) to connect to a remote computer, pressing "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" on your local keyboard triggers the security options on your local machine instead of the remote one. To perform this action on the remote computer, you can use the following methods:

Method 1: Use "Ctrl + Alt + End"

  1. Open Remote Desktop Connection: Launch the Remote Desktop Connection app on your local machine, enter the remote computer’s IP address or hostname, and click “Connect.”
  2. Provide Login Credentials: Enter the required login credentials to access the remote computer.
  3. Send the Command: Once connected, press "Ctrl + Alt + End" on your keyboard to bring up the security options on the remote computer.

Method 2: Use the On-Screen Keyboard

  1. Open the On-Screen Keyboard: On the remote computer, go to the “Start” menu, search for "On-Screen Keyboard," and open it.
  2. Send the Command: Hold Ctrl and Alt on your physical keyboard and click Del on the On-Screen Keyboard using your mouse. This will simulate "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" on the remote computer.

Method 3: Use Third-Party Tools

Some remote desktop management tools, such as Remote Desktop Manager or mRemoteNG, include built-in features to send complex keyboard shortcuts like "Ctrl + Alt + Delete", making it even easier to perform this action during an RDP session.

Additional Tips

  • Double RDP Sessions: If you're connected to a second remote computer from within the first RDP session, the "Ctrl + Alt + End" shortcut may not work. In this case, use the On-Screen Keyboard on the second remote computer while holding Ctrl and Alt on your local keyboard.
  • Keyboard Layout Considerations: If your keyboard lacks an End key or has a different layout, use the On-Screen Keyboard or keyboard remapping software to assign another key to function as End.

By following these methods, you can easily send "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" commands in an RDP session, enabling you to perform tasks like launching Task Manager, locking the remote machine, or changing the password.
