Updating the minor engine version

MySQL cloud database supports manual version upgrades, which involve new features, bug fixes, etc. After creating a new MySQL instance, you can upgrade the MySQL instance version as needed, currently only minor version upgrades are supported.

Precautions:

• After a successful version upgrade, it cannot be rolled back.
• The upgrade process cannot be cancelled once started.

Minor Version Upgrade

The minor version upgrade of a standard edition instance involves two steps: data preparation and switching. The data preparation begins immediately after the upgrade process starts, and users can choose the switching time. The data preparation process of a standard edition instance will have a slight impact on the instance IO.

The minor version upgrade of a high-availability edition instance does not require data preparation. The upgrade process starts by immediately upgrading the standby node. After the primary and standby nodes switch, the original primary node is upgraded, and users can choose the switching time.

During the primary-standby switch, the business will experience a flash cut of about 20 seconds. Users are advised to set the switching time during off-peak business hours, or ensure that the business has an automatic reconnection mechanism.

After clicking on the minor version upgrade in the console, you can choose the corresponding minor version and switching time.

After the version upgrade starts, the status of the MySQL instance is displayed as "Minor version upgrade in progress". After the data preparation is completed, the instance status is displayed as "Upgrade pending switch", at which point the details page will display the switching time. Users can modify the switching time on the details page. After the upgrade is completed, the instance status returns to its initial state.
